The Proverbs of Scotland

1862. This is a collection of the proverbs of Scotland, with explanatory and illustrative notes and a glossary. Throughout the volume, a considerable number of notes are introduced. The compiler states that many of these notes are mere literal explanations or illustrations, conveying generally a poor idea of the deeper meaning which the proverbs themselves are capable of yielding. The reader will find a very wide array of proverbs used even today.
