Excerpt: ... It is apparent from the foregoing description that these screens not only prepare the coal far better than the ordinary bar screens, by sizing more thoroughly, but the slow, gentle motion of the coal reduces the breakage to practically nothing. At Sarita a new record was established for the construction and development of mines. Work was started in April of 1910. This involved clearing and grading an incline down the side of the mountain for over four thousand feet on a slope varying from 30 to 60 degrees and mostly through solid sand rock. Large bins had to be constructed at the top of the incline, and bins and tipples at the bottom. Side tracks were laid, machinery on the tipple installed, and new boilers and engines added to the power house. This work was completed and on November 25th, 1910, the first coal was shipped. The tonnage increased by leaps and bounds. Entries were driven day and night and the great thickness of the seam made a large output possible from a few working places. The tonnage increased to 400 tons per day in December, 700 in January and in February 1180 tons of coal per day were dumped. This is certainly a record to be proud of.
