Description ▲
Research and academic scholarship dealing with Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) exploded during the past decade. WSNs gradually found many potential uses, including environmental sensing, building and structural integrity surveillance, automotive traffic safety, shipping cargo and container monitoring, border patrol support, terror threat alerts, assisted living equipment, and many other detection and response situations. But actual large-scale WSN deployment has progressed much more slowly. Power drawback issues have received much attention, and security is also a serious concern. The power drain problem in sensor networks spawned a long list of clever workarounds, which tend to complicate security problems. In this thesis I study several design aspects of WSNs, such as data aggregation, compression, time synchronization, and efficient query routing. My primary goal is to investigate practical, energy-efficient, and secure solutions that will enable robust, large-scale WSN applications.
