It now appeared quite settled that Florence never was to accompany her husband when he went out in the morning. No attempt on either side was made to alter an arrangement which seemed to have established itself, and it was only when the dusk of the evening allowed a fair chance of his not being observed that Gerald ever offered to release poor Florence from the confinement in which her days were passed.
