Excerpt from Considerations on Mr. Paine's Pamphlet on the Rights of Man
In the following considerations, I shall have no occasion to enter into any dispute with Mr Paine concerning principles of government. To what he has detailed as such, and to the declaration of the rights of man by the National Assembly of France, I very readily subscribe: I shall therefore only mention those, whose application to the governments of France and Britain I may hereafter have occasion to notice. I agree with him, first, That every society can chuse its own government, can reform it, can change it for another.
