In connection with the discussion of practical results it has been possible to present only brief statements as to the conditions under which they were obtained, but references have been freely given for assistance in the further study of the subject. Special attention has been given to the matter of draft and its influence upon the economic results, measured both quantitatively and commercially. In the Appendix will be found the Rules for Conducting Boiler-trials adopted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

An expression of appreciation is due for the privilege of making use in this work of certain portions of the treatise on Mechanical Draft compiled by the author for the B. F. Sturtevant Company.
