Description ▲
The aim of this manual is to provide and overview of the pathways model to offending developed by Ward and Hudson (1988). Since originally published, this model has provoked much interest but, as yet, has failed to have any significant impact on clinical practice. This is despite the fact that the model has now been the subject of three separate empirical investigations in both custodial and community settings. This volume begins with a general introduction to describe the development of the model and to compare it with the limitations of the relapse prevention model, which has been widely adopted in the treatment of sex offenders. It explains the model and its separate phases in detail, and in addition there are a series of case examples illustrating each of the four pathways. The manual also includes a section highlighting the key indicators for assessment and allocation to each of the pathways to facilitate clinicians appropriately assigning offenders to their correct pathway.
