Amberleigh McKenna is a confused twelve-year-old whose inner strength and self-confidence have been shattered by the death of her sister and her parents’ divorce. She, as a result, is sent to spend time with her grandparents in the country. It is there that she learns to love life and its beauty. In doing so, she develops an especially close bond with her grandpoppy. Amberleigh’s world is again turned upside down at Thanksgiving when Grandpoppy suddenly dies.
