The Medical Center Revealed: a story of transplantation

You are about to embark on a journey that at times will make you laugh out loud at its absurdity and at others cry at the hopelessness of the people involved. What am I talking about? Healthcare; specifically the inner workings of a functioning yet dysfunctional transplant service at a major medical center. There are over 89,000 people waiting for an organ transplant. Yet only a little over 21,000 people receive a transplant annually. Transplantation is no longer the exclusive subject matter of science-fiction writers. Modern medicine has advanced to the point where organ transplantation is no longer an oddity. It is my hope that, with this work, you have a sense of the uphill battle these individuals face and the odds they are up against.
