A recounting of one childhood in pre-World War II China and another childhood in America during the Great Depression and how they came together in Egypt during World War II. Anecdotes of wartime exploits and encounters with maharajahs, ambassadors, Arab sheikhs, corporate leaders, religious primates and heads of state paint a vivid portrait of two fascinating people who experienced first-hand many of the major events of the 20th century.
