Description ▲
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A370183. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Emitter localization is a very important communications tool that will be extremely valuable to a multitude of different military as well as civilian applications. In many parts of the world, GSM is the preferred method of modulation used in mobile phone traffic. This thesis addresses the time difference of arrival estimation applied to GSM type signals using wavelet-based techniques. Signals are generated using the Hewlett-Packard Advanced Design System software and processed using algorithms based on Matlab. The results of this thesis prove that we can improve upon the localization of a GSM emitter through the use of wavelet-based denoising techniques.
