Description

The purpose of this book is to help the student of jazz piano learn techniques of improvisation and chord voicing using Richard Drexler's scale system. It first introduces Herb's 37 original tunes and some of Richard's and describes Richard's scale system and then applies it to Herb's songs. A CD is included of recordings of both authors' songs in MP3 format. Selected tunes are analyzed in the text and used to demonstrate the scale substitute system. In another chapter the sax solo of Bob Berg on Mitzvah Waltz is analyzed. The student will be able improve his or her technique of improvisation using the Drexler method once it is assimilated and reinforced.
