Running For Their Lives

What price, this freedom? While the slaves were running they could not allow themselves to think about the fact that they or their loved ones might not make it to freedom. There would be time enough for mourning once they were free. To be sure, once out of bondage, they would realize that the true price of their freedom had been under estimated. The memory of the lost loved ones would add an even greater value to their freedom and the pain and agony caused by grieving would serve to sweeten the joy of being free.
