The mental anguish consumed him like salt water to a drowning victim. He felt himself struggling to scream but no sound came out. Inside he grabbed for a rope that could prevent his fall in to the abyss but his arms waved frantically in vain. There was no saving him this time...no rope, life preserver, just the endless decline as a result of his failure.
