Description ▲
Alexis Zelers is an ambitious thirteen year old girl who has her heart set on something she has always dreamed of doing. She knew all of her life that she wanted to be a writer when she grew up, and now is her chance to prove that she has what it takes to follow her lifelong dream. Alexis is an English Honors student who attends Roosevelt Intermediate School in Fairfield, New Jersey. This means that she is a possible candidate to be chosen to work on a writing project with a New York Times author of the year, Mr. Jonathan Kurz. That is, if her application is accepted. It is not as easy as it sounds though, for she is just one out of sixty students who will be applying for this special program. After Alexis attends an important meeting with Jonathan Kurz in New York City, she feels a special connection to him. He assures her that she will be a famous writer someday, and those words alone inspire Alexis to spend days writing up her application. She finally hands it in with high hopes of gaining acceptance, and tries to ignore the thoughts her unpredictable Journalism teacher (Mr. Bounno) has about her. He has never seen her writing outshine everyone else's, and has always thought of Alexis as a slacker; someone who should have never applied to be a TR Scholar in the subject of Language Arts. On November 23rd, the results of who will be accepted into the program are announced, and Alexis experiences a series of emotions which turn her entire life around. She is suddenly forced to reevaluate the opinion she has of herself, and develops the inner confidence to believe in her own abilities with some unexpected assistance. Ultimately, Alexis learns that in life, certain things, and people, are not always necessarily what they appear to be.
