The work of abbreviation and revision was carried out by another hand, and it seems to me to have been skilfully done. The question occurred to us whether the first chapter, which deals with such uncertain matter, might not be omitted altogether, but we decided to retain it in an abridged shape, on the ground that it might interest boys reading Homer.
