Description ▲
My parents didn't teach me to love myself. They assumed I'd get someone else to do that job for me, so I didn't realize the importance of self-love. If life is a school then they brought me to school; and for that I'm thankful. But it took hard work on my part to make my major me. And even once in class I had to move my seat away from the clowns at the back of the room to get focused. My parents also taught me that "pride cometh before the fall," and that simply wasn't true either; arrogance does. All the spills I've taken in life were initiated by my arrogance, not by pride. It was the arrogance of loving others before I loved myself that made me impatient with people and brought on the disappointments with romantic love. But once I came to class regularly I found myself prepared for all the lessons of life. I took life's spot quizzes cheerfully and even started studying for the final exam. By the time I achieved my Ph.D. in me I knew I'd graduate life with honors.
