The Chessmen of Mars - 1st Edition

Our old friend, John Carter, Warlord of Mars, and his beautiful wife, Dejah Thoris, appear again, but the story mainly concerns the adventures of Tara, Princess of Helium, daughter of the Warlord, among strange races in remote regions of the Red Planet. Among other astounding things we are shown the land of headless men, creatures with the power of detaching their heads from their bodies and replacing them at will. The title of the story comes from a grim and deadly war game, similar to chess, played on Mars with men and naked swords.
