The Santa Fe Republican: New Mexico Territory's First Newspaper, 1847-1849

"Devoted to Science, Literature, Agriculture, the Earliest News from the United States and the General Movements of the Army." This was the motto of the Santa Fe Republican, New Mexico Territory's first newspaper, published from September 10, 1847 until late 1849. Forty-nine issues of the Republican now exist. In this book, Gary Lenderman has compiled the local news and advertisements from those issues and also the first issue of the New Mexican, published on November 28, 1849.
