Christie "The Beachcomber" Mitchell was the somewhat eccentric, nevertheless the official Galveston Island public relations man during the city's famous Sin City era. Writing as The Night Owl, Mitchell and his wife Janie nightly prowled the many night spots of the Island, and chronicled who and what they saw. Galveston's most famous story teller, Bill Cherry, has compiled a number of Mitchell's weekly newspaper columns to give readers a first hand sense of what that period was all about. Author Cherry's 2000 book, Bill Cherry's Galveston Memories was a best seller that sold thousands.
