F.Scott Fitzgerald was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1896. He was names after this third cousin, Francis Scott Key, but he was called Scott. Fitzgerald was an American author of short stories and novels pertaining to the life and culture of the "Jazz Age", a term the author actually coined himself. Widely regarded as one of the greatest writes of the twentieth century, his most celebrated work is "The Great Gatsby", which was published in 1923. Along with his beloved wife, Zelda, Fitzgerald lived the grand life, enjoying elaborate spending sprees and lavish parties. This life was the basis for not only "The Great Gatsby", but also his novel "The Beautiful and the Damned". "This Side of Paradise" is classic literature by Fitzgerald and was his premier novel. It is the story of Amory Blaine, a young man growing up in the "roaring twenties". The book is closely based on the life of Fitzgerald - even down to his almost alma mater, Princeton. It is the story of life at Princeton among the glittering, bored, and disillusioned, postwar generation. Published in 1920, the novel was an instant success! Fitzgerald wrote this book rather quickly in an effort to gain back the affections of his former sweetheart, Zelda. This is truly a book that can be enjoyed by anyone!
