Inviolate

Is a young girl ever safe from a sex predator? Shortly after the Marsh family moves to Colorado, their eleven-year-old daughter Shannon is cunningly seduced and molested by their teenage neighbor, Gene Gillian. Months later, when Shannon finally tells her mother about her assault, the news polarizes her parents. While her father wants to report the crime and have Gene arrested, his wife steadfastly refuses to allow anyone to know that their daughter has been victimized.

Two years later, Gene Gillian and a high school friend are driving the streets on Halloween night and harassing trick-or-treaters when they see eighth grader Connie Wojick walking home alone from a school costume party. Their faces hidden behind Star Wars masks, the two men confront the young girl and force her into their car, then take her to an alley on the other side of town where Gene brutally rapes her. After Connie is set free in an unknown neighborhood, she eventually arrives home safely but suffering from shock. Two days later, a phone tip to the police leads to Gene's arrest, but a lack of forensic evidence and an alibi substantiated by his mother's testimony allow him to be released uncharged.

While her rapist walks about free, Connie struggles with her emotional and psychological trauma. A therapist who was herself a victim of childhood sexual molestation counsels Connie to accept that although her physical virginity was stolen from her, only she can choose when and to whom she will surrender her innocence spiritually.


Inviolate is a harsh reminder of a potential threat that can exist anywhere at any time. A story of love and friendship, it also depicts the terror and humiliation of sexual assault and the collateral damage that is inflicted on a victim's loved ones.
