A Man of Ampurdan: Grandfather's Spanish Civil War Poems

Beneath the words there is a man, one who reaches for humanity, and in the end achieves his purpose, although it is never obvious to the man himself. A war lost. A life in ruins. In the aftermath, this man suffers, finds love, and lives out his days in peace. These poems takes us from his childhood home in northern Spain, through his young adulthood as a university student, to the end of his life among family and friends. The poems are discovered after his death. His granddaughter publishes them. She also introduces him to the reader. Here we get a sense of the man as seen by his family -- a good man, a loving man. These poems strike depths unkown to his family, with the exception of his wife Victoria who has nurtured him back to life. Victoria and family represent this man's salvation. The Spain he dreamed of and fought for forever gone, at least to the man himself.
