Description

This is a continuation of the transcribed and footnoted pension applications begun in book one of Don’t Shoot. Though the pension applications are original source material, they are in need of explanation and documentation, which James F. Morrison has painstakingly done by using the muster rolls, payrolls, and regimental records from the Revolutionary War. Most of the files for the men are longer than the documents transcribed; we tried to use the documents which give the man’s service record and any family information available. The longest file so far has been 264 pages in length. Some documents are difficult to read; due to fading of the documents, aging, poor handwriting, outdated spelling, etc. The ones of most interest are put into book form with the footnotes by James F. Morrison. There are about 150 pensions in this volume along with other information about the servicemen. Make sure to read the story of Joel Bower who told the story of his life before and during the Revolutionary War, along with the War of 1812. Murdock Cameron served as Burdie Campbell, due to his inability to speak English. Henry Cool applied for a pension but made the mistake of telling a neighbor that he served most of the war serving the other side.
