Distribution-Free (Nonparametric) Statistical Quality Control Charts: A Concise Summary Part I (1920's-2000)

This manuscript represents a survey of the statistical literature on distribution-free ( nonparametric) statistical quality control charts since the work of Walter Shewhart in the late 1920's and through the year of 2000. The manuscript includes executive summaries of the nonparametric control charts. The executive summaries are presented in a unified format containing the following information about the chart: a publication reference, purpose, sampling plan, control sequence, control limits and the signaling rule, average run length (ARL) calculations, and efficiency comparisons, if any. Discussion of some disadvantages of the traditional distribution-based control charts is also included. This manuscript is intended for quality control charts students, researchers and practitioners.
