Grace in a Green Hell

Each year hundreds of people surrender their lives to full-time missionary work. The church, denomination, and agency may vary, but for those who are eventually accepted and go to the mission field, the hazards, trials, and rewards can never fully be anticipated. In 1958, a young American couple began a missionary odyssey. Grace in a Green Hell is the inspiring story of Jim and Skip Curtis, who, along with their four children, ministered to the tribal people of the inner Amazon basin for more than thirty-four years. As full-time missionaries representing New Tribes Missions, they provided medical and health care, marriage counseling, and encouragement to a people that some anthropologists had suggested would be better served "just left alone" But instead of leaving these people to the chains of fear and depravity that their animalistic religion offered, or allowing them to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous loggers, mineral and rubber hunters and traders, this young, dedicated couple taught sobriety, honesty, and wholesome family living using the Bible as their primary source. The adventures Jim and Skip lived were never publicized in the way that other excursions in the same area were. Even so, their impact on the quality of life and spiritual well-being of countless men, women, and children can only be measured on the other side of eternity.
