No Gold Stars

Due to a near fatal injury at the beginning of my sophomore year at Emory University, I struggled to graduate only to find I was about to be drafted to go to the war in Vietnam. Instead, I chose a different battle, the integration of the Greenville, SC school system in 1968. This story, based on my memoir, tells about my year as the only white person at Sterling Jr.-Sr. High, the Reverend Jesse Jackson's alma mater. No Gold Stars focuses on some of the unspoken heroes of that civil rights era, my students and their victories.
