Description

Welcome to Book One. A family saga set during the Ist century AD. The Latin history of events paint the Britons as uncivilised barbarians. Both sexes fought coated in little but blue dye. The annuals dismiss the Druid hierarchy that lasted for a thousand years. The conquest did not happen in a month or a year, fifty years later the legions reached Orkney. Let no one pretend Britons are ever an easy prey. These peoples lived closer to nature; slavery was part and parcel of life. Entertainments were violent and explicit. Romans killed without compunction, in Britonic ceremonial ritual murder was deemed essential to appease their Gods. Mistress Deva is never a saint. Her country is being overrun. She will use beauty and skill to assimilate in this new world order. City of the Legions is a salacious warts and all saga of victor and vanquished in the European theatre of experience. I use The Roman camp of Castra Deva as a linchpin for a story of ambition, desire, and determination. The backdrop is Imperial expansion. We shall dine with Emperors, witness Boudicca's fury and gain a taste of life in Rome. In Book Two we witness the opening of the Coliseum, bet on a race in the Circus Maximus. The theme remains the lives of the family Aurelius and their assimilation with Deva Celts. Day one finds the Partician family Aurelius suffering grievous times. We follow a migratory journey to the Eastern Empire and then turn West to follow the Roman Invasion of Britain. I paint it as it was not is. Suffering is good for the soul the Gods demand it. After the shock, if you enjoy the read, try the sequel and tell others. There is no silver spoon sponsor providing publicity. Another word works wonders. `Those who are about to die salute you.
