Description

The book will provide the reader with an understanding of a data integration solution approach that is truly universal, a solution that is “one size fits all.” The approach is based on the Universal Data Element Framework (UDEF), an open standard. When using the UDEF for indexing enterprise data, it is analogous to using the Dewey Decimal System for indexing books in a library. In the same way a card catalog and Dewey Decimal System index books enabling a person to find a book in the library, the UDEF provides a standard for indexing data within the enterprise. The UDEF enables a person to discover data and systems to integrate data across multiple applications and enterprises. Once the enterprise data has been indexed with the UDEF, the data is enabled for simpler interoperability with any other data that has been indexed with the UDEF. The time and effort to integrate data between any two applications indexed with the UDEF is substantially reduced; thereby substantially reducing enterprise costs. The book guides the reader into understanding how the UDEF can help any enterprise index their data with the UDEF and build the associated card catalog. It also guides the reader into understanding how they can leverage the UDEF to simplify interoperability between applications. The book includes typical data sharing examples. The book describes and illustrates the six steps that an enterprise should use to reduce costs of data integration while simultaneously improving the quality of the data managed within their applications.
