Since opening for business on November 16, 1914, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston has been an integral part of the economic life of the entire New England area. From the outbreak of World War I through the technological challenges of Y2K and the dark days following the attacks on September 11, 2001, the Boston Fed has played a prominent role in providing stability and strength to the region. Beyond its financial role, the story of the Boston Fed is also the story of Boston and all of New England.
