Small Trout: Fly Fishing that Matters

Bill Loehr lets us know that when fly fishing, he is “ doing something important.” His is not a “how to” or “where to” fish book. Rather, he examines what he is doing and why, discovering that he is often “outwitted by a creature with a brain the size of a lentil.” These essays reflect his path through fifty seasons of fly fishing. He takes us to countries and places where fly fishermen are little known and odd things can happen. Few have been told they would be killed if they fished where they had intended. Rambling his home water in southwestern Colorado, he takes pleasure in small wild trout. Loehr takes you hiking in deep canyons and Colorado’s high country. We feel the sizzle-bang of lightning and aching fingers on a winter day. He raises our awareness of wild country and, in wilderness we come to trust that the trout we love will prosper now, and in future.
