Description

Joseph Campbell, following the writings of Carl Jung, argued for a very simple formula: Myths are public dreams and dreams are private myths. To this we can add that somewhere between our 'private dreams' and 'public myths,' there is Theater. Early theater had many improvised elements: songs, folk stories, myths, acrobatics, dance and humor were combined to convey more serious messages. This conflation of influences eventually resulted in texts that were reduced to the page; this particular manuscript of this particular play has been reduced to writing as a convenience only. It should serve as the basis for a performance, a starting point--not as the last word.
