May 24, 1974 - It wasn’t until Dan Hagerty took a job guarding Mathilda Colessar that he got hit by his first attack of “the stress,” battle fatigue. It was moments after he’d killed two of the three men attempting to kidnap her. Heck of a thing to have to deal with during the summer between his first and second year of law school. If he’d just stuck with the internship at the US Attorney’s office in Chicago none of this might have come up. But, a man who’d been gunned down by a traitor and a Vietnamese drug lord didn’t feel that fetching and carrying was an appropriate way to spend his time. Using his Uncle Dominic’s identity to get a job as a chauffeur wasn’t a positive step either, especially when the FBI crashed down on him. On the other hand, it brought Grace O’Connor back into his life - Special Agent for the Department of Justice. Between fighting attacks of “the stress,” trying to keep Maddy safe, falling in love with her, and working a very odd job for Grace, it was going to be a busy season.
