The First Amendment: An Introduction

The First Amendment introduces students to the freedoms included in the First Amendment of the United State Constitution. These five freedoms are religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. The First Amendment is one of the most important legal and social documents in American history. Its meaning remains the center of much controversy, debate and litigation even after 200 years. This introductory text gives students basic information about the First Amendment. This book is part of the Tennessee Journalism Series, a set of books and instructional material developed by the faculty of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee.
