Dreaming Cities is piano trio (violin, cello, piano) inspired by Italo Calvino's, Invisible Cities. Its five, dynamic movements evoke the novel's floating, mirror, mechanical, and whimsical architecture. The sweep, pyrotechnics, fantasy, and lyricism of the trio's ideas glide, leap, and dance through the musical palindromes, catwalks, and microcosms of the score.
The violin and cello parts are included. The duration for the piece is 20 minutes.
The work has been performed throughout the United States and Europe and serves as an excellent companion piece on programs that feature piano trios by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Smetana, and Dvorak.
