Tales of an American Outcast is something of a coming of age story, following a young Ariek Ashe on his journey toward manhood. Set in the late 1990's and early 2000's, the reader bears witness to his struggles, his trials, his secrets, and his fight to find his way in a world that hates him. But at the same time, we are taken on a psychological ride into the darkest recesses of Ariek's anger, hatred, obsession and sorrow. We, as the reader, hear what he hears, see what he sees, and are privy to his most private thoughts. And, as the story develops, we see him begin to break down. In short, the Tales of an American Outcast series is a whirlwind trip into insanity and adulthood. In Dreamfall, the second book of the series, things couldn't get much worse for Ariek Ashe. Three years in the backwater of North Carolina had left him angry, neglected, and alone in a world that despised him. His friends were gone. The home he thought he knew had been ripped away from him. And everything he thought meant something had been broken, stolen, or ruined one way or the other. But is this the end of the line for the troubled teen?
