Off to College with King Solomon: A Devotional Handbook for Beginning College Students

The overwhelming majority of freshmen entering college possess little factual knowledge about the realities of college life. Further, misconceptions shaped by friends and the entertainment media may even lead to unwise or destructive behavior. Ignorance about college life often contributes to social, spiritual, and academic disappointment and discouragement, even with Christian students. Sadly, nationwide about thirty percent of all college freshmen will leave school. In order to address student uncertainty about college life, three goals guide this book: 1. To help Christian students succeed academically by providing practical tips, advice, and insights about the college learning environment. 2. To provide a realistic picture and practical suggestions about day-to- day responsibilities and opportunities in college life beyond the classroom. 3. To encourage a spiritual process (with King Solomon's Biblical help!) for dealing with life's many challenges, academic or otherwise. The author, a retired college professor, husband, parent, and church layman, has taught and interacted with students for nearly forty years. The author writes in an easy style intended both to entertain and inform the new college student with daily devotional thoughts for approximately one semester.
