Range war was brewing when Spur McCoy arrived in the town of Kearney, Nebraska. His mission was to help the town's gutless sheriff prevent violence from erupting between the cattle ranchers and the sodbusters who were fencing in their homesteads and breaking up the range. But by the time Spur rode into the Platte River Valley, the bloodshed had already begun. A farmer and his family had been brutally murdered by some vengeful ranchers, and one of the cattlemen was tortured and lynched in retaliation.
