Tattersall: Short Stories

Tattersall is a collection of ten short stories. Many of Coker’s colorful characters are native Texans and most of the stories take place in Texas The stories are both sad and humorous with a wide range of characters from the self-absorbed alcoholic in "Big Bucks" to the coming of age story of an eleven year old girl growing up in the 1950s in "Earning an Education." The Mexican ranch hand from Uvalde in "The Chair" will touch your heart with his even keel outlook on life, no matter how difficult, and Shirley Jo will exhibit the guilt one feels when the time comes to parent the parent in "Car Thief." A broad historical perception of our culture is represented by a boy growing up in poverty in the early 1900s, a girl growing up in the middle class morality of the 1950s, an urban cowgirl of the 1980s and a sexually promiscuous woman of 2000.
