Trials and Tribulations, along with the strange dreams that consume Roni in the High Sierras lead her to a profound reevaluation of her life and future, which in 1965 is looking very bleak. The drug culture in southern California is gaining a foothold among young people. As a confused, fatherless fourteen-year-old, she tries hard to avoid being sucked into it. Raised by a mother she constantly battles, and disliked by kids at school, the only escape she can count on is when she is on the back of her horse, riding away from her complicated life. Just when it seems things have sunk as low as they can go, she meets a man who seems to be a throwback to the cowboys of yesteryear. Suddenly, everything about her life changes....
