Madame Bovary

Madame Bovary is Gustave Flauber's first published novel and might just be his best. Considered a master piece by many critics it is seminal work of Realism. Charles Bovary getting a second-rate medical degree he sets off to a small town to start to build his practice. Visiting a local farm to set the leg of Mr. Rouault he falls for his daughter Emma. Turning up at the farm more often than necessary his unpleasant and jealous wife that his mother picked out for him very quickly puts a stop to it. With jealousy, love affairs, disappointments and a crafty merchant Charles Bovary has much to contend with.
