It contains a biography of sixteen of the seventeen captains of the American vessels that were in the battle. No such comprehensive information has been published before. It contains a description of all of the American vessels in the battle as well as the story of how the first vessels of the American fleet were obtained and how the last group of vessels were destroyed or captured in 1777. In addition, the book includes first hand accounts from pension applications, journals, memoirs and letters of American participants and journals and letters of British participants. Finally, the book contains a never before published roster of 448 officers and men who participated in the battle on the Americn side.
