Mobile Plants

'Mobile Plants' is a novella that portrays the lives of all those modern creatures who have no sense of their roots or may be they carried their roots along.Mobile plants are those plants that survive anywhere, 'even in broken bottles' as one of the characters observes. The novella is about an ageing couple living in a cosmopolitan setting. They are bored with their regimental existence and on the verge of separation. It was then that a street vendor gifts them with an exotic plant “Joy of living”. This seemingly trivial event sets the ball rolling. They undergo a series of experiences that not only transform their insipid life but also take them to a hitherto unknown level in their own relationship. “Joy of living” ushers in new characters in to their life and takes them on an exploratory journey in to the lives of these characters- their loves, grief, separations, tribulations. “Joy of living” touches the lives of all the characters in different ways giving them diverse implications. As the characters and events unfold the mystery of “Joy of living” and the curse attached to it unravels. The couple unwittingly get involved in the mystery surrounding the plant. As the couple get involved in the mesh of events on a physical level, their relationship and inner life gets evolved. This literary novella takes the reader in to the mysterious world of mysticism and beliefs discovered through the eyes of ‘He’ and ‘She’ (the couple) who narrate the novella in two halves. The narrators themselves become a part of the incidents involving the characters and these events and the ‘joy of living’ leave an indelible mark on their own life and changes their life, love and relationship forever.
