The Living Mirror: On Man as a Maker of Forms

Does it make sense today to ask the question: What is man? And if so, how to develop it? For here there’s an inevitable problem, which is of language. Because ours are “Hellenistic” times in which the past living expressions of our culture, now dead and dissected in museums, cannot just be revived. On the other hand, precisely for this very reason, maybe it’s possible to gaze at “all” these expressions to see what their place in a definition of the problem is. But even if this were not possible at all it would still make sense to ask the original question and – why not? – to still try to work it out here, and now, even in these times of “decadence”.
