St. Philip's Church (Church of England) was established in Charleston SC circa 1680. Since 1680, the only book written about the church was a fifty page book written in 1897. This author chose to write about the 20th century and the early 21st century to obtain live quotes. It has made the book come alive. Be aware. This is not just a history book but much more. It consists of scandals, blessings and miracles. Tears have been shed at St. Philip's, anger has been expressed and joyous voices have praised the Lord through the centuries. The Holy Spirit lives within our ancient walls. Within this book is the story of of the murder,of Bishop Guerry, race relations, and the final sermon of Rev. Renny Scott. This author has chronicled the decline of The Epsicopal Church from 1915 to 2013. The last chapter is called "The Trials and Tribulations of the Rt. Rev. Mark Lawrence" from 2006 to 2013. The chapter leads up to St. Philip's, and forty other churches in diocese of South Carolina, to leaving The Episcopal Church. This author, William McIntosh III, a native of Charleston SC graduated from the High School of Charleston and Tulane University with a history major. His wife, Suzanne, an L.S.U. journalism, is the editor. Bill has written several articles for the South Carolina Historical Society, the Huguenot Society of South Carolina and the Louisiana Historical Society.
