The Battle With God: The struggle to know and love God

I sat with Joe after he discovered his fiancée cheated on him. She broke off the engagement and he was devastated. With a broken heart, he looked at me and asked, “Why did God let this happen?” Some believe only “bad people” battle with God. Yet the Bible is full of people who battled God: Jacob wrestled with God, Moses disagreed with God, Habakkuk questioned what He was doing, and Jonah rejected what He was doing. We fight God when we question who He is and what He is doing. We blame Him when things don’t go as we hoped. His sovereignty makes us question His goodness. His holiness intimidates us.
