The Poetry's The Thing: Journal of a Little- known Poet

This Journal was written over a roughly one year period between September 2007 and September 2008. Its effort however is to describe and understand a lifetime effort in reading and writing Poetry. From childhood and more strongly in adolescence I loved the reading of Poetry and its occasional writing. In this Journal While I frequently consider and cite the work of the poets who have been important for me the main focus in the Journal is on my own efforts at poetry. The Journal shows and tries to understand and improve my own practice as poet. It thus contains many small examples of poems as I work on them. It shows the process of thought in composition of the poems. I try to understand not only how I do work but how I might work to improve the Poetry. Much has to do with my consideration of what true Poetry is. Each day’s entry is a small essay in itself covering some subject or theme related to Poetry. There is no inherent logic in the order of the entries. Nor is there a focusing on my everyday life situation apart from Poetry. The reading and writing of Poetry, the understanding of this process in myself and others is the heart of this Journal.
