Fishing and Shooting Sketches

During his time in the White House, Grover Cleveland spent so much time fishing that he was forced to acknowledge that “As far as my attachment to outdoor sports may be considered a fault, I am … utterly incorrigible and shameless.” He was also as dedicated a hunter as he was a fisherman, often sitting in a duck blind from before sun up to sun down. He was widely regarded as an excellent wing shot but he knew that even a dead-eye has his shortcomings. When it came to quail for instance he admitted “I do not assume to be competent to give instruction in quail shooting, I miss too often to undertake such a role.” Grover Cleveland was elected to two non-consecutive terms as president, the 22nd (1885-89) and 24th (1893-97). This softbound edition reproduces “Fishing and Shooting Sketches” first published in 1906 in order to help bring this classic to a wider audience than could possibly be reached by access only to those remaining copies of the originally published work.
