High School 2007

The book centres around the experiences of a couple of teachers at a high school in the Northern Cape, South Africa. After democracy, a new education system was introduced in South Africa, it is called, Outcomes Based Education. This education system for some reason caused major havoc in education in the country. One of the major outcomes was that pupils learnt very little, the brighter ones managed to cope, but they couldn't count, read or write properly. The other students and pupils were totally at a loss of how to cope with OBE. The results were that disruptions became the order of the day. The students seemed to be on a production line with a certain percentage required to pass. Mostly those who were promoted found themselves unable to cope with the work due to lack of skills. This book takes a look at the problems that teachers and students experienced due to OBE.
