A Fair Place: Syon Abbey 1415 - 1539

This is a fully updated revision of the author's doctoral thesis, examining the history, constitutional arangements and intellectual life of the Brigittines of Syon Abbey, near London.Emphasis is placed on the continuity of contacts and the similarity of observance between Syon and its Mother House at Vadstena in Sweden. Syon was distinctive in being a double monastery, for men and women; it enjoyed a deserved reputation for orthodoxy, piety and scholarship; and it was one of the last houses to be dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539. This is a timely contribution to the history of the house in the period leading up to the sexcentenary of its foundation in 2015.
